"Championing community voices and infrastructure innovation in District 44."

Shawn Pinkston is committed to addressing the pressing issues of traffic and congestion that significantly affect our daily lives and the quality of life in Senate District 44. Recognizing the critical need for infrastructure improvements, Shawn has outlined key campaign initiatives focusing on the major infrastructure developments poised to reshape our communities.

The Widening of 526 and Bridge Replacements: The widening of 526 and the replacement of the Don Holt and Wando bridges are monumental projects that promise to touch the lives of nearly everyone in Senate District 44. Shawn understands the far-reaching implications of these projects and pledges to ensure that every affected community will not only be heard but actively involved in the process.

Long Point Road Flyovers: Set to begin construction in 2026, the Long Point Road flyovers represent a significant development for residents of Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, and commuters to the area. This initiative is critical for enhancing accessibility and reducing travel time for our communities.

Port Expansion and Traffic: With the port's recent acquisition of the old paper mill site and plans to accommodate larger container ships, the need to replace the Don Holt bridge has become more apparent. Shawn is acutely aware of the disruption that bridge closures can cause, drawing from the Wando Bridge closure experience in the summer of 2018. He emphasizes the importance of transparency and community involvement in addressing the challenges posed by increased port traffic and the expansion of the port in North Charleston and the Wando Welch Terminal.

A Focus on Transparency and Community Voice: Ensuring transparency and giving a voice to every impacted community during the planning and execution phases of these infrastructure projects is a cornerstone of Shawn's campaign. He advocates for a meticulous planning process that prioritizes the residents' needs and quality of life in every affected area.

Minimizing Impact on Daily Life: Understanding the frustrations of longer daily commutes and worsening congestion, Shawn is dedicated to making traffic and congestion relief a primary focus of his tenure as your next State Senator. He recognizes the significance of these infrastructure projects, potentially the most impactful in the Lowcountry for the next decade or two, and commits to keeping residents informed and involved, aiming to minimize the disruptions to our communities.

Shawn Pinkston's Commitment to Education:
As a father of four children who attend public schools in both the Charleston and Berkeley County School Districts, Shawn Pinkston is personally invested in the education system. His experience as a parent reinforces his commitment to enhancing educational policies so that all children are well-prepared for their futures.

Support for Teachers:
Shawn Pinkston believes that the quality of education begins with the educators themselves. He advocates for:

·       Increasing starting salaries for teachers to attract the best candidates.

·       Implementing competitive annual pay raises to retain skilled and experienced educators.

Universal School Choice:
Shawn supports expanding educational scholarship accounts to all children in South Carolina. The current ESA program is too restrictive and should be available to every student statewide, providing families the freedom to choose the best educational pathways for their children.

Shawn Pinkston's vision for Senate District 44 is one where growth and infrastructure improvements go hand in hand with maintaining the high quality of life that residents cherish. By focusing on effective planning, community involvement, and transparent communication, Shawn aims to lead District 44 through these transformative times with a steady hand and a clear vision for a better tomorrow.
